In Genesis 2:7 we read that after God created us from dust, He breathed His breath into our nostrils to give us life. Thus causing our breath to be directly His and each time we exhale, we exhale Him. In other words by breathing, we reflect God back to Himself.  Worship is our response to who He is. Worship in it’s purest form is breathing.

Ezekiel 37:5 Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause BREATH and Spirit to enter you, and you shall live.

See how God says that HE will cause the breath and Spirit to enter the dry bones. True worship starts with the revelation of who He is. When we realize who He is, our worship looks a lot different. Something deep inside of us starts to make sense and we can’t help but declare His worth. In the verse above, God says, I will cause breath AND Spirit to enter you. The Holy Spirit loves our Worship. He joins in on it. He worships God with us, but He is also God. His presence and fellowship during worship bring deeper revelation of who God is. Revelation evokes worship. More worship means more fellowship with the Holy Spirit. More fellowship with the Holy Spirit brings more revelation of who God is, evoking more worship. This cycle is never ending and that is why we will be able to worship God for all eternity.

The beauty of it all is that God not only causes our worship, but He also responds to it. In verse 6 God says “and I will lay sinews upon you and bring up flesh upon you and cover you with skin.”

We see 3 things added to the dry bones after the breath (worship) and the Spirit entered them.

  1. Sinews
  2. Flesh
  3. Skin

Worship causes 3 things in our lives:

  1. A sinew is another word for a tendon. A tendon is a tough band of tissue connecting muscle to bone. Even the strongest of muscles can’t move or cause movement without the sinew connecting it to bone. God added the sinews before the flesh (muscle). God added the STRENGHT for the movement first. Worship brings strength to face certain situations before anything regarding our circumstances have changed.
  2. Flesh speaks of muscle. Muscle is responsible for movement in our bodies. God brings a PRACTICAL SOLUTION for our problems through Worship.
  3. Skin brings protection from the sun. It keeps our insides from dehydrating. But it is also the first part of our bodies to be damaged by the sun. Worship keeps our lives from drying out. Worship makes sure that our joy and peace stay intact. Worship protects us from the blows of this world, but it is also the first to take blows. Why? Because the first thing we loose in a difficult situation is our worship. When circumstances become tough we tend to think about everything except worship. And so our circumstances become even more dry. We loose even more joy. We loose even more peace, because what is supposed to be our protection is neglected. But skin also brings beauty. Your skin covers all of the mushy parts of you and makes you beautiful. Worship brings beauty and purpose to our lives. It causes us to see past all of our own mushy parts, but also the mushy parts of others, because it changes our perspective and focus.

Verse 10 says ” ..And they lived and stood upon their feet, an exceedingly great host.” It is worship that changes people. Worship brings strength to stand up when everything in your life has dried out. Worship gives purpose to those once lost. Worship changes circumstances. Worship brings beauty and joy and peace. We were made by worship to worship.

So let worship be your way of life. Let worship be the essence of your being. And when you don’t know how to worship in a certain situation, just BREATHE..
